what is oil cleansing?
though it sounds somewhat crazy at first, the idea of using natural oils to cleanse the skin actually makes a lot of sense. the basic idea of oil cleansing is to use natural oils in a specific combination to cleanse & naturally balance the skin’s natural oils. our skin produces oil called sebum, & that oil naturally gives us nourished skin & a healthy glow. when we coat our skin with harsh chemical cleansers we essentially strip our skin of its natural oils, then our skin overcompensates & produces more oil. this means we wash even more, & create an unhealthy cycle for our skin that can lead to skin irritation & acne.

“the basic concept of this skin care & cleansing method is that the oil used to massage your skin will dissolve the oil that has hardened with impurities & found itself stuck in your pores. the steam will open your pores, allowing the oil to be easily removed. should you need it, the smallest drop of the same oil formula patted over damp skin will provide the necessary lubrication to keep your skin from over-compensating in oil production.” - www.theoilcleansingmethod.com
the method:
this is generally done in the evening, before bed. there should be no need for deep cleaning when you wake up if you oil cleansed the night before. a quick wipe with a warm washcloth should suffice. you don't want to over cleanse your skin; this will only to irritate & cause more oil production. the purpose of using this method is to deep clean while balancing your skins oil production at the same time.

cleanse. start with a dirty face {no need to pre-clean}, rinse your face lightly with the warm, running water. pour oil in the palm of your hand & then apply gently all over your face. massage oil firmly, but gently into your face for a couple of minutes. not only will this remove makeup & dirt, but it will also help relax the muscles and tone the skin. take your time, using slow and firm motions, to massage the oil deep into your pores. take specific care to work any problem areas. enjoy this time & let the oil sit on your face for 30 more seconds or more.
steam. once you feel like your pores are fully saturated, soak your washcloth in clean, hot {but not scolding} water. the warm washcloth will help open your pores and remove the oil. place the washcloth over your face. leave it there for 30-60 seconds to open the pores. you could also use a facial steamer at this point instead of the hot washcloth.
wipe. gently wipe the oil away and rinse the washcloth out. wipe and lightly rinse until you feel like the excess dripping oil is off your face. don’t scrub. if you skin feels too tight or dry when you are done, take a couple of drops of your oil & rub it between your hands. then simply massage the oil residue onto your face. no need for commercial moisturizers! this is an all-in-one product!

what is exfoliation:
the skin is made up of several layers & the upper most layers of skin tend to get dry. when this happens it begins to shed & make way for new skin cells. however the old dead skin does not have a way to get rid of itself. if you do not exfoliate your skin you risk the dead skin cells clogging the new cells, leaving it dull & unhealthy.
if your skin is clogged this can lead to a number of skin issues like acne, blackheads, & peeling skin.
skin exfoliation is one beauty treatment that you should ensure to do if you want a healthy glow on your skin. a facial scrub helps remove dead skin cells, dirt, makeup residue, blackheads & other impurities from your face. done regularly, a facial scrub also helps stimulate skin cells & helps reduce or prevent fine lines & age spots. exfoliating your face can make skin brighter & softer. buffing away dry, dead cells on your face will reveal the fresh cells underneath.
{wickedglam} facial scrubs restore flaky dehydrated skin to a smooth silky softness. thorough yet gently exfoliating, these must have scrubs combine coffee, cocoa, raw sugar, and oats to exfoliate dead dull surface skin, as milk moisturizes & hydrates. gentle enough for all skin types, these scrubs can be enjoyed daily or weekly.
the method:
mixusing a 3-1 ratio, scoop 3 parts of scrub to 1 part of liquid to form a paste. you can use water to keep it simple, or you can use any variety of items: honey, toner, orange juice, rosewater, egg whites, milk, yogurt, or any other all-natural liquid form you can find in your kitchen!
scrub.  once you have a manageable paste, massage firmly but gently into your face for a few minutes. relax & enjoy your mini face massage.
rinse. soak your washcloth in hot {not scolding} water & gently wipe away the scrub. continually rinsing the washcloth out, wipe & rinse until you feel all traces of the scrub is off your face. if your skin feels tight or dry when you are done, follow up with a light coat of cleansing oil or face butter
